HEIC to PNG Converter

PNG is a lossless container for the pixels we decode from HEIC. The photo itself was stored lossy; the PNG does not add another round of JPEG compression. Conversion stays in your browser.

Drop images or a folder

Or paste with Ctrl or Command V. Nothing is uploaded. Choose photos opens the iPhone photo library, which may hand over HEIC or a JPEG it already converted.

Options · quality 85 · strip GPS

Used for JPG and WebP. PNG stays lossless. Default is 85.

Resize
Metadata

JPG and PNG can keep camera tags. WebP is re-encoded without the original metadata container. Re-encoding sets orientation to upright.

How to convert

  1. 1. Choose the HEIC files

Drop them, paste, or open the photo picker. Folders are accepted where the browser allows it. A JPEG that iOS already converted is accepted on this page as well.

  2. 2. Choose a size

Leave the dimensions alone, or set a max width and height or a percent. PNG does not use the JPG quality slider. Transparent pixels stay transparent.

  3. 3. Save the PNG

A single image downloads directly. A batch becomes a ZIP. Expect a larger file than the HEIC: PNG is storing the decoded pixels, not the compact camera original.

Questions

Why is the PNG bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC compresses the photo. PNG stores the decoded image without JPEG-style loss. That is useful for editing, and it is a poor way to email a holiday album. Use HEIC to JPG when you want a smaller file.

Does PNG keep transparency from the HEIC?

Yes, when the decoded image has an alpha channel. JPG cannot. If you switch the format option to JPG, transparent pixels are composited onto the background color.

Are my photos uploaded to make the PNG?

No. libheif runs in a worker, from a separate file under /wasm/libheif/ that you can replace. The site never posts the image to an API.

Which metadata is copied into the PNG?

The default strips GPS and, when the source metadata can be read, writes the remaining EXIF into a PNG eXIf chunk. Strip all leaves a PNG with no copied metadata. WebP output does not carry that container.

What if decoding fails?

You will see a specific error instead of a broken download. HDR and some 10-bit HEIC files are the usual cause. Export a JPEG from Photos, or try the same file in Safari, which can decode HEIC natively.

Can I convert a whole folder?

Yes. Choose folder, or drop a folder onto the page in browsers that expose directory entries. Each file has its own progress, cancel, and retry. Download all packs the finished PNGs into one ZIP.
